LATE is a professional association of teachers of English of Latvia. It was founded in 1992 by a group of teachers from the primary, secondary and the tertiary sector. Since then it has grown to become an organization with over 360 members with its aim and objectives being:
- to promote English language learning in Latvia;
- to promote and disseminate information about the latest teaching methods to EFL teachers in Latvia;
- to encourage research in the field of EFL;
- to provide professional support with respect to teaching resources and access to professional development courses for EFL educators in Latvia;
- to seek and to develop contacts with like-mineded international professional organisations.
LATE consists of the Board, ranging in number from 11 to 15 delegates, who represent all areas of the country. The Board is elected every 2 years at the annual AGM. The Association runs a resource centre where members can borrow books, audio and video material and receive consultations in the field of EFL
