Project Summary
The project aims to enhance students' problem-solving skills to help them face the challenge of life-long learning. In order to reach the aim, the following objectives have been set: - Sets of new supplementary foreign language study materials for learning English, French, Danish, Latvian and Romanian that foster students' problem-solving skills. - On-line teaching modules for learning English, French, Danish, Latvian and Romanian and the development of problem-solving skills on the basis of the new materials. - A group of foreign language teachers in each participating country who are able to use the new materials and on-line modules in their professional practice, disseminate them among colleagues and propose new national and international projects based on the results of the given one. The project is targeted at learners of English, French, Danish, Latvian and Romanian who are older than 14 and have already reached B1 level in one of the given languages. The main activities of the project are concerned with the design of supplementary learning materials for the target languages and the development and launch of on-line teaching modules for mastering one's skills in the above languages along with an improvement of problem-solving skills. The Thinking Approach to language teaching and learning is the underlying methodology of the project. The project group includes people from 12 institutions coming from 5 European countries (Latvia, France, UK, Romania and Denmark). The project is supported by the European Commission in the framework of Lingua 2 action of the Socrates programme.
